Are you kidding me?
So, for me (and many other teachers), NCLB is the devil's spawn. Now good 'ole G.B. is planning on taking states' rights away and putting the smack-down on Charter schools (CS).
I am still not totally certain as to my opinion on Charter schools, but if you actually read the research--these schools are very effective. Yes, I taught at a CS for 2+ years, and yes, it was totally corrupt, the students weren't the primary focus, and yes, I was let go through a certified letter in my mailbox--but still, that school was still far better for the students than most of the local schools their living situation would have placed them in geographically.
I think that Charter Schools can be an excellent alternative for students--especially for those students who need smaller class sizes for added attention. Non-corrupt CS's missions are to make sure small class sizes are the norm rather than the exception. NCLB already is a POS, and for our stupid el presidente to make amendments to add to the idiocy of the act is absolutely ridiculous.
Is it Nov. 2008 yet?
